It is not correct. There is a mounting plate that screws into the bumper. The only exception is if the vehicle is the vanguard of the factory option Bush. There was another licensee for ML up to the plate to watch Bush get in touch.
It is actually a plastic shield that supports the plate in the bumper (which obviously is not). The alternative is two metal screws in the bumper cover with plastic.
If you have little square holes in the bumper, you get plastic inserts in the auto parts store. Then unscrew the plate for them.
